cultivating flow: inside the seed to bloom methodology

cultivating flow: inside the seed to bloom methodology

the method behind the madness!

because I work non-linearly, because nothing I say is cut & dry, because I wax poetic, get spiritual, & use words like attune & align (sigh), sometimes my work seems elusive & hard to name. for myself, for people who come across it.

so, I’m going to attempt to name it here :)

the process I walk folks through as I help them bring their visions from the ethers into reality or onto the internet in some form (a book, a business, a home) is called seed to bloom or sometimes, the path of the flow.

cuz yes, there IS a process!

I’ve walked my middle school creative writing & english students through it when I was full time classroom & virtual teacher without naming it. I’ve walked myself through it as I stumbled through every tomdickharry productivity hack. And now, I walk my clients through it as they build out their businesses.

how my process is different

Idk, I might be somewhat of a unicorn in the Online Business Manager & Virtual Assistant world. Not saying I’m any better, god no. Most systems people on the internet are incredibly organized & VERY good at what they do. I’ve gotten stuck in the comparison trap of knowing this & thinking I don’t need to/can’t show up, selling my services, cuz of this.

but my business, creating in kapwa, and I are truly unicorns 😅

cuz I weave the practical with the poetic, the ancestral. the logistics & admin with your capacity, your emotional state, your whole-ass LIFE.

your business, your creative work, your home, parenting & liberation practices, have a way of making you meet your edges. the places where you don’t want to look. the ones your ancestors may have carried with them until death & passed on to you.

these things live inside you & in my process, I honor them.

cuz the things you don’t want to face may be the very things keeping you from getting what you want & they reveal themselves as you & your work continue to grow & evolve. as your visions, your team, your family, your bank account, your community continue asking you hold more, or, if not more, differently than any previous version of yourself or those who came before you.

the framework for finding flow

phase 1: grounding

so that’s why we start with grounding.

and yeah, the work is often not linear, so we usually come back to this, but I like to start here.

cuz most people who come to me are either overwhelmed by life, by adulting, by the fact that they built a thing & it’s working 😅

together, you and I stop the bleeding, get you a raft to keep from drowning, unclog the bottleneck (these are all obv metaphors & all things clients have said to me). we figure out exactly what’s draining you, where you feel heavy or chaotic & acknowledge this first.

most productivity systems will simply prescribe a blanket one-size-fits-all solution (sound familiar?) without ever looking at what’s going on emotionally, contextually, physically.

and we also live in a society that values constant output, constant fire energy, go-go-go, without pause or reflection. that’s why we call it burnout.

then we are left with a business, a creative practice, a home that doesn’t feel like ours. that feels like another job we’re slowly dying inside of.

so, we start by GROUNDING into:

  • the land that is your body - what emotions are moving through? where is there physical pains? what’s your brain & body’s capacity? witnessing these things & letting what can move, move. a lot of my client calls end in tears, cuz most folks are holding so much on their own that a moment with someone who can witness & hold it with them is MOVING.

  • your current reality - what are the responsibilities you have outside of your business, your creative practice, your home? this is another thing that most systems or productivity folks don’t take into account: THE REST OF YOUR EFFING LIFE. lol or they try to sell you something that just isn’t designed for the nuances. we honor the nuance. we honor the fact that you have the time between pickups. we honor the flareups. we honor the pivots & the opportunities/ideas you were so excited you couldn’t say no to.

  • the JOYS of the work - like the shit your inner child would be like GLOWING about, like that’s who I grow up to be?! sure, you’re why okay, but the reasons you started doing this FOR YOU. not for anyone else or some tomorrow vision boarded dream. the reasons living in you RIGHT NOW.

  • the SENSORY JOYS of the work - the materials, the moments with yours clients, the moment when what you made reaches someone else’s hands, the coffee shop writing.

these are the things we ground into, the things I remind you of. especially when things get wild, they’re easy things to forget.

from here, we begin to build the foundation for our work together & for your work that will inevitably grow/go on without me (cuz yeah, that’s the goal!! lol).

we design & build a homebase around your natural rhythms, the workflows & tools that are ALREADY WORKING for you. no buying new planners or fancy project management tools….unless you don’t already have one LOL. I’m all about using what you have & redesigning to make them work. and if we’re starting from scratch…FUN. we can choose one together based on how you (and your team, if you have one) think, how you move, how you work.

we also begin documenting processes & workflows that again are already working so that you can delegate or automate later (more on this later).

phase II: imagination

the fun part.

you get to zoom out, to daydream, to envision the version of you who has it all.

cuz you CAN have it all & you DON’T have to be doing ALL THE THINGS forever. you doing all the things is temporary. it MUST be for your work to be sustainable.

so in this phase we get to imagine. we visualize. we collapse time & space.

we access the other realms. we consult your guides, your ancestors, spirit, the soul of the work itself.

I look at your birth chart & what the stars & planets & the sky have to say about HOW you’re designed, HOW you, in particular, go about bringing a vision to life.

and we write it down.

we break down your vision to bring it in closer: from the version of you 10, 5, 3, years from now to the one tomorrow. what do you see/feel this person doing in these times & spaces & places?

from here, we look at what want action steps/tasks even projects want to stay with you, be delegated or automated.

if you have a team or are looking to build one (and for the writers & artists out there, this could look like your publicists, publishing houses, galleries, organizations you work with….and for the caretakers we’re thinking about your beloveds), we imagine & feel into what that team, when all given a chance for their strengths to shine, what that would look & feel like for all involved.

this is a incredible phase. one that most of my clients really don’t have a problem with 😅

which brings us to….

phase III: devotion

THIS is what most of my clients & students ask help for around. they know deeply what they want, what the vision is, what they love about the work. it’s the doing part that gets mucky.

this phase looks different for everyone. cuz the way you devote yourself & the way your people devote themselves to the work is all dependent on your natural ways of being & rhythms.

cuz this is the part where we figure out HOW to get the business, the home, the admin/business-y parts of your creative practice running without YOU IN IT ALL THE TIME DOING ALL THE THINGS.

so that it keeps being tended to when you are off being a human being.

here’s where a fantasy flow comes in (or maybe in phase II, where you’re imagining things).

a fantasy flow is when you make plan WITHOUT accounting for your humanity, your life, all that you already have & do & are.

a fantasy flow is that genius plan that gets you $90k in 6 months.

the one that shows you how to spit out 21 pieces of content a week.

the one that wants your toy system to be exactly like Molly Mushroom’s one with the (expensive) wooden toys & polished floors.

the one that writes 3,000 words per day, every day, without fail.

in this day and age, we MUST account for our humanity, for that of our client’s & customer’s, the humanity of our team members & collaborators, our family’s, especially that of our children.

if your plan doesn’t account for:

  • flare up days

  • days your children, animals, elders, partner(s), grief, joy, yourself need you

  • appointments, school events, hobbies

  • the rest of your responsibilities (hello, school & 9-5 while running a business/writing a novel/cultivating a home!)

then it needs to be revised. lovingly, gently, with care.

this is what we do inside of the devotion phase.

cuz it’s not consistency we’re after, really (you are already consistent). we want you to stay in love with the work, in your flow, in your creativity. to be able to ebb & flow as the work & your life & you do.

more often than not, this looks like REMOVING and editing down as much as possible. to bare bones. it looks like me saying, “let’s start here & iterate later.”

cuz a system & structure is no good if you can’t truly live & thrive inside of it.

a seed will not bloom if the conditions aren’t right.

look at where we’re at now as a society under the systems & structures we currently live under * gestures to the hellscape that is modern life *

so, we make it for you. we iterate & reflect & move a piece here & there to make it so you can feel at home in the system we create for you.

so that you actually start to use the beautiful planner, the expensive project management tool, the app you downloaded months ago.

and not only use it, but feel like it’s second nature to use it, to make things move, to be okay being away from it, and trusting yourself that much more to come back to it.

and all this so you can stay in the work you came here to do.

to write the damn thing.

make the damn money.

change the frigging world.

cultivating flow is a practice

it won’t come all at once.

the seed to bloom path of the flow is a practice within itself.

and within it, I show you how to build a flow practice & attune to yourself, to your work, to your web of kapwa, seen & unseen.

so that you find creative flow more often & become more of you.

to start this practice together, you can send me a note or download the internal weather check to starting checking in with yourself before your to do list.

in gratitude & kapwa,

teresa
